The OSTAR is a northern crossing of the Atlantic, against prevailing winds, from Plymouth, United Kingdom to Newport, R.I.. The race is organized by the Royal Western Yacht Club in the UK and takes place once every four years. New Englander Jonathan Green finished the race in his Beneteau Oceanis 351, Jeroboam, in 22 days.
Aaron Hawkins decided to spend his last morning in Rhode Island sailing, simply for the pleasure of sailing. He guided a J/24 past the breakwater to let the bow dip into the waves and allowed the spray to wash over the deck. In less than a day he’d leave for the British Virgin Islands to assume his position as the first mate on Ocean Star, Sea|Mester’s 88-foot sail-training schooner.
The 40th anniversary of Morris Yachts is a time to remember Tom Morris and to reflect on the future of the enterprise with his son, Cuyler, at the helm.
The flagship of Bavaria’s Cruiser line is as comfortable as it is enjoyable to sail.
The latest—and largest—in Bavaria’s Cruiser line of Farr-designed sailboats sports a slew of new features.
On the English-built Discovery 57, everything is led and arranged so an experienced couple can easily operate the boat.
“Grande Touring” is what the “GT” stands for in this new offering from the Maine builder, and it’s a fitting description. The pretty sloop features a clever, expansive interior layout; a tall rig with self-tacking jib and furling main; and, of course, the detailed, high-quality craftsmanship for which the company is known. The Morris Ocean 48 GT is part of Cruising World‘s 2013 New Boat Showcase.
All the comforts of home are wrapped up in a performance hull designed to fit racers, cruisers, and charterers to a T. Boat Review from our September 2012 issue.
World Cruising Rally sailboat Ciao sank after a collision with a submerged object.
Trepidation. I get antsy in the days just before I go offshore. There’s so much mental preparation. I leave October 2nd for a six week research expedition aboard the SSV Robert C. Seamans, a 134 ft. schooner brigantine operated by Sea Education Association to explore “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch.”
This handsome full-size yacht boasts an expansive cockpit and wide open interior. Boat_ Review_ from our August 2012 issue.
